If my child doesn’t want to leave the toy store, I clarify them by saying, “I understand that you want to stay, but we need to go.”

If my child doesn’t want to go to school, I clarify them by saying, “I’m sorry that you don’t want to go to school, but you need an education and it’s the law.”

If my child doesn’t want to clean their room because it’s such a big job, I help them get organized and started.  If they still refuse, I take their phone.

If my child says, “I can’t fall asleep because I’m worried about Tommy at school,”  I tell them, “Right now it’s time for sleep. We will talk about Tommy in the morning.
