Dear Sandy, My daughter is cutting herself.  I have taken her to several therapists and taken her door off of the hinges. Do you have any suggestions for me?  Thank you, Beverly

Dear Beverly, I’m glad to see that you are searching for answers.  Quite often, people hurt themselves because they can’t cope with frustration.  If my daughter was frustrated with my parenting skills, I would read my book (ha,ha) and parenting books, go to family counseling, and let her know I was going to make some changes.  A second alternative for family drama is to let her live with a relative for a while and still attend counseling for myself and with my family.  A third alternative is to seek an Intensive Out Patient Program (9 hours a week) or  Partial Hospital Program (9 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday), or Inpatient hospitalization (24 hours).  Any of these programs should help her gain the skills she needs to handle the frustration.  If you have a copy of my book, I would read pages 3-6, 8, 11, 13, 17, 20, 32-33, 47-49, and 50.

All my best, Sandy
